Professor Ir. Dr. Ramesh Singh Kuldip Singh

 

Professor Ramesh is a highly distinguished academician who has earned numerous accolades and recognitions at both national and international levels. His exceptional leadership was recognized through his secondment to Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) from 2020 to 2022 as the Dean of Engineering and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) in 2023 as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International). As of 15 December 2023, he serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) at Universiti Malaya (UM). Over the past 30 years, he has held various key positions, including Dean, Deputy Dean (Research), Deputy Dean (Development), Chair/Head of Manufacturing Engineering, Chair/Head of Mechanical Engineering, Senate Member, Director of the Research Management Center, Director of the Engineering Business Unit, Associate Director of the Engineering Accreditation Department Malaysia, Senior/Head of Engineering Accreditation Panel, and International Industrial Advisor for the Institution of Mechanical Engineers UK. Ramesh also serves as an advisor, external examiner, and moderator for numerous engineering programs and faculties across Malaysia, India, Australia, China, Qatar, and Brunei.

Ramesh has authored over 450 scientific papers and filed numerous patents. Under his  research leadership, his group has secured over RM19 million in research grants, and he has successfully supervised 87 postgraduate students, including 42 PhD candidates and 45 Master's students (by research). Professor Ramesh has consistently been ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide for Career-Long Citation Impact in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, according to Stanford University and Elsevier. This ranking underscores his exceptional influence and productivity in his field. In recognition of his scholarly excellence, Ramesh has received numerous prestigious awards, including the IEM Young Engineer Award and the Malaysia Toray Science Foundation’s Science & Technology Award. He has earned over 90 national and international awards, such as the Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA) Best Biotechnology Award, the Croatia Inova Outstanding Invention Award, and was recognised as one of the "Malaysia Engineer Star" by the Institution of Engineers Malaysia. 

Professor Ramesh is a registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council UK, a Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia, a registered Asean Chartered Professional Engineer and APEC International Professional Engineer. He is an elected Fellow of five prestigious professional societies, including the Institution of Mechanical Engineers UK, Engineers Australia, the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, the Institute of Materials Malaysia, and the Malaysia Scientific Association. He serves on the international editorial board of Ceramics International (a Web of Science Tier 1 journal by Elsevier) and holds various editorial roles, such as Associate Editor for Scientific Reports (Tier 1 journal, Springer Nature), Founding Editor & Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (ESCI-listed, Springer), Associate Editor for the International Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology (Wiley-Blackwell), and Review Editor for Frontiers in Materials. Additionally, he is an international reviewer for over 100 ISI-Web of Science journals and serves on the advisory and technical committees of various international conferences. He is also an international reviewer for national and international research grants, and is serving as a mentor to many young engineers and academics.

Professor Ramesh is a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, a prestigious honor for those who have made significant contributions to research, practice, and education in science, engineering, and technology. His contributions have had a substantial impact on engineering education and the advancement of mechanical and materials engineering. His expertise has been recognized by several institutions globally; he is a Distinguished Professor at Yunnan University (a "Double First-Class" university in China), Huanghe Jiaotong University, and Xi’an International University. He also serves as a Consultant Professor with Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), China, further underscoring his remarkable leadership and contributions throughout his career.
